Hi, I’m Sara Mahowald, CIYT (she/her)

Mend -

I’ve spent my life learning a myriad of skills and call myself a Jill-of-all-trades or the Duchess of Dabble.

I started learning how to sew as a child, and the love of learning new crafts with my hands has never left - I knit, crochet, cook, bake, lino-carve, punch-needle - the list goes on. As I’ve wisened, I’ve considered the impact humans have had on our environment, and mending my garments is one of the steps I like to take to decrease my waste.

Bend -

When I was 13 years old I was diagnosed with moderate scoliosis after an older sibling noticed my back rib hump while we were on vacation. My pain was minimal in childhood, but in college my back pain was so bad I couldn’t find a decent sleeping position. After seeing my massage therapist who suggested yoga and traction, I found a Yoga for Scoliosis class in Denver in 2015 and never looked back. The class with Robin Thorpe, CIYT, was taught in the Iyengar style. The focus on anatomy and structure is what drew me in, and it helped me manage my back pain. In 2019 I took yoga teacher training courses with Leslie Bradley, CIYT and Craig Kurtz, and I continue to attend yoga teacher development classes with Kelly Moore, LMT, CIYT, C-IAYT and Steven Norber on a monthly basis. I became a Level 1 certified teacher in the Iyengar method of yoga in 2022.

My Approach

I love mending! I love yoga! I want to share my knowledge with as many people as possible so that we can all create lasting change. I believe in equity and community.

Inclusivity

I know how some classes can be. If you have felt left out of mainstream yoga classes, this can be a space for you. Judgement is left outside of class. To me, inclusivity means everyone receives the resources they need. In addition to being a teacher, I’m a perpetual student and am always learning. If you need to inform me of something harmful in my classes, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Accessiblity

I want my classes and content to be as accessible as possible. If you need financial assistance for my mending classes, I have a sliding scale. This is a safe place no matter who you are. And no matter who you are, you are welcome here.
Accessibility means meeting people where they are.

If there is an issue, no matter how “minor,” please contact me.
